To continue our “Project Spotlight” series this month, we turn to the World Financial Center in Battery Park. The Center has transformed this historic American landmark into a new beacon of hope, prosperity, and remembrance for New York City, the United States, and the world. Battery Park is now home to four gleaming World Trade buildings. These buildings attract visitors, residents, and commercial businesses to a thriving part of Manhattan that will always maintain a significant place in the American story.

AJ Manufacturing was deeply heartened to see the development of Manhattan’s – and our country’s – new and restored World Trade buildings over the past three decades. When we were asked to contribute our air distribution products at Four World Trade, as well One World Trade (formerly known as the Freedom Tower, rising 1,776 feet high), we immediately got to work on products that would meet the high standards of these important buildings’ air filtration systems.

A Look at the History of the World Trade Center, the World Financial Center, and Brookfield Place

Originally, people used the name “World Trade Center” to refer to the Twin Towers, which now stand forever remembered as Ground Zero—a site that today honors the lives lost on September 11, 2001, with a tasteful yet harrowing memorial.

City planners announced plans for additional towers while constructing the Freedom Tower. This included the restoration of the damaged building, Four World Trade, which architect Fumihiko Maki redesigned and features awe-inspiring floor-to-ceiling windows. Serving as an understated, yet dignified presence next to the powerful designs of One World Trade as well as the soon-to-be-completed Two World Trade building, Four World Trade is home to well-known office tenants, including Spotify and the Port Authority of NY and NJ. It also contains stunning permanent art exhibitions.

When the World Financial Center asked us to build and install air distribution products, we confidently integrated our custom HVAC work into the buildings’ advanced air distribution systems.
